Share your best draft

This is key if you want to start something

After two hours of writing and deleting, I give up trying to write a perfect, lengthy, and significant email this week.

I’m still catching my breath and processing the events of the past week.

Sometimes, starting something means letting go of perfectionism and showing up just as you are.

It means sharing your best in-process draft instead of waiting for the perfect finished piece.

So, I’m going to share just two things today:

1. This post, with Octavia E. Butler's words, which gave me hope this week.

I especially love this line.

“There’s no single answer that will solve all of our future problems.
There’s no magic bullet. Instead there are thousands of answers–at least.
You can be one of them if you choose to be.”

Octavia E. Butler was a renowned African American author. In the 1990s, she wrote about the future (specifically the year 2024 👀 ), and the themes and issues she addressed in her Afro-Futuristic, feminist novels and short fiction have become eerily relevant with time.

2. This little sticker I made in 2020.

I drew it in the middle of the Pandemic when life was feeling especially rough. Drawing it brought me joy. Having these printed still makes me laugh.

I love to send snail mail, and I’d love to spread a little joy!

I’ll send this to the first ten people who reply with their U.S. mailing address

Ps. I did a little re-introduction of myself and this newsletter last week! Here it is, in case you missed it.
