Can you "start something" when you don't yet know what you're starting?
It’s a real chicken or egg situation
Does your idea exist because you show up and work on it?
OR
Do you show up and work on your idea because it already exists?
In my experience working with folks who start things, you have to show up first.
And we tend to go through stages.
1. I have an idea (Internal questions: Is it worth prioritizing? How do I prioritize it?)
2. I believe my idea is possible and will prioritize it. (Internal Qs: Am I spending my time the “right” way?)
3. My idea has become a thing that exists outside of my head. (Internal Qs: What now?)
[Let’s get meta here for a second - I am between stages 1 and 2 with this newsletter. I believe in the idea behind this newsletter and am learning how to prioritize writing it consistently]

You have to build momentum for your idea to exist outside of your head. The easiest way to do that is to start showing up before you know exactly what it will be.
It may feel indulgent at first to focus on your idea over your already existing obligations.
It will take practice. It means showing up even when you don’t feel like it.
So, if you have an idea you’ve been noodling on (wanna write that book? Sell a service? Do that research project?), I double dog dare you to schedule a time this December to start working on it.
It can be as simple as one focused hour per week.
Random Fact Intermission
Did you know that Alaska is the only U.S. state where all the letters are in the same row on a keyboard?!
I learned about this in Fun Fact Friyay, a newsletter for curious people. Every Friday, you can learn a new fact and its story in under two minutes.
If you’ve thought to yourself, “I need to stop scrolling on social media” lately, sign up for this fun newsletter so you can spend your scrolling time in a better way.
Happy December!
My work and personal travels will take me to NYC, Phoenix, and Quito this month.
As I continue to build a habit of writing this newsletter, while adjusting to my new travel-heavy job, my goal is to keep showing up in your inbox weekly-ish.
Case in point - I started writing this email in Atlanta, I drew the cover image on the plane and I’m doing my final edits while in an uber in NYC.
“Showing up” doesn’t have to be fancy or perfect.
Here’s to committing to our ideas! 🥂
